Multicast Intercom Paging
What is multicast intercom paging or multicasting?
In most hosted PBX deployments, it is not feasible to page multiple devices from the hosted service provider's switch because each device paged requires a separate call path. As a result, for example, if a page is sent to 10 devices, it will require multiple call paths (one for the pager, and one for each of the pagees). This is not optimal because it could easily saturate the Internet bandwidth and degrade the voice quality for other callers. Moreover, it can become very costly due to additional dedicated call paths required for just paging purposes. Our solution is to use multicast paging where the devices communicate with each other, in a mixed device environment, and therefore no dedicated call paths are established via the switch. Voradian's unique patented technology allows for multicast paging at the local network level for a single domain location without the additional cost or degradation to the Internet bandwidth.
Voradian's multicast paging is a great feature to use to broadcast simultaneous general purpose paging to all users within your organization at a single location via their desktop phone's intercom. By default, this feature in not enabled. You may request this feature at anytime by submitting a support ticket via our ticketing system. If your specific network configuration permits multicast paging, we can enable it. Allow 24 to 48 hours for programming and propagation of the feature to be effective on your domain. There are no additional charge for this feature at this time.
